An elderly couple in Melbourne, Australia, who eloped from a care home they dislike have not returned even after a week. The daughter of Colin and Claudette Geraghty has made a public plea for them to go back to Ryman Nellie Melba Retirement Village, the facility they left on July 11, only to be found in Maryborough, 118 miles away.
Despite efforts to convince them, the 89-year-old Colin and his 83-year-old wife remain at a motel, adamant about not returning to the nursing home, as shared by their daughter Linda McKelvie. Linda highlighted her father’s intelligence and capability to outsmart those trying to locate them.
While acknowledging the love and care between the couple, Linda emphasized the necessity of the support provided by the care home. She mentioned their current stay at a motel, where they have expressed a strong aversion to returning due to dissatisfaction with the care arrangements.
Colin and Claudette had been moved to the aged-care facility due to Claudette’s health needs, including seizures and vascular dementia, requiring constant supervision. Despite this, the couple resisted the change, with Colin taking charge of driving and orchestrating their escape.
Their family, concerned about their safety, has repeatedly urged the couple to come back. However, the Geraghty pair remains firm in their decision to stay away, with Colin reassuring his family of their well-being in a message sent on the day they went missing.
The unexpected turn of events has left their loved ones anxious, hoping for their return while respecting the couple’s current stance.
