“EastEnders Actress Arrested for £157M Drug Bust”

UK actress Emaa Hussen, aged 34, has been taken into custody and accused of trying to transport 320kg of methamphetamine into Australia. She made an appearance in a Sydney court on June 18, facing a potential life sentence for the alleged offense.

Hussen gained recognition for her portrayal of Naz Mehmet in a spinoff of the popular TV series EastEnders – E20. The authorities claim that she concealed the meth within charcoal bags that were shipped from Ghana to Australia. Police intercepted the drugs, valued at £157 million, in Port Botany. Additionally, two individuals from Adelaide were apprehended earlier in connection with the incident. Hussen’s next court appearance is scheduled for August, having been denied bail previously.

The Mirror has delved into the background of the 34-year-old actress and the specifics of the alleged crime…

Following a tip-off, Border Force Officers investigated a shipment destined for a storage facility in Girraween. X-ray scans revealed a “white crystallised substance” in the bags within two separate shipping containers. Although the contents were declared as charcoal bags from Ghana, subsequent testing confirmed the presence of methamphetamine.

Reportedly, Hussen supervised men who unpacked the bags and transported them to a residence in Blacktown, where she was subsequently arrested and electronic devices were seized. Investigators claim that a search of the property uncovered 32 bags identical to those containing the meth.

The two other suspects from Adelaide were allegedly found to have rented the storage unit under false identities.

Local law enforcement has emphasized the significance of the substantial drug seizure, stating, “The confiscation of these drugs, estimated at a street value of $296 million, has prevented a potential 3.2 million illicit deals within Australia and underscores the AFP’s cross-border operational capabilities.”

Hussen rose to fame for her role as Naz Mehmet in the EastEnders’ spinoff, E20, where she played a major character in the second series. In an interview, she described her character as often torn between her family’s traditional Muslim values and the modern lifestyle of East End.

Her acting career also includes a role in the 2013 film Hummingbird, starring Jason Statham, where she portrayed a prostitute. Another credit listed on her IMDB profile is for The Plot to Bring Down Britain’s Planes in 2012.

In a 2015 interview with the Guardian, Hussen recounted her journey to London as a refugee in 1999 at the age of eight. Born and raised in Baghdad, she disclosed the challenges her family faced due to the conflict between Iraq and Iran, leading them to seek asylum in the UK.

These experiences shaped her identity, as she navigated between her Iraqi heritage and adapting to British life. Over time, she found community support in London and pursued her passion for acting.
