A written apology from Robert Bush, a disgraced funeral director, has triggered anger among the families of his victims. Bush, who was sentenced to 20 years in Hull Crown Court for various offenses, including failing to bury or cremate bodies and giving families incorrect ashes, offered his apology to those affected by his actions. However, some families have expressed fury at his gesture.
Jasmine Beverley, a mother whose son’s remains were found at Bush’s funeral home almost two years after his stillbirth, described the apology letter as “cold and condescending.” She criticized the content of the letter, stating that it lacked sincerity and seemed insincere.
In the letter addressed to the victims, Bush acknowledged the distress and pain caused by his actions, expressing deep remorse for the suffering experienced by the families. He accepted responsibility for his failures, admitting that he should have acted differently and sooner. Bush also emphasized that he did not expect forgiveness but wanted the families to know that he regretted the consequences of his actions.
The former undertaker pleaded guilty to 67 offenses, including preventing lawful burials and theft from charities. Prosecutors described Bush’s operation as “shambolic and chaotic,” causing extreme emotional distress to those affected.
