A man was taken into custody for allegedly pilfering human remains from a hospital and graveyards with the aim of preparing and consuming them. The 30-year-old individual was apprehended by authorities after purportedly taking body parts from the hospital in Budapest where he was employed and a cemetery, as reported by Hungarian law enforcement.
The suspect, employed as an orderly at the hospital, is under scrutiny for suspected desecration of corpses. Police initiated an inquiry following a tip-off that a hospital staff member was storing the remains at his residence situated in one of Budapest’s affluent neighborhoods.
During the search of his home, officials purportedly discovered a human face, facial skin, bones, a leg, a hand, skulls, and a heart in a preserving container. The heart is currently undergoing analysis to determine its origin, whether human or animal, according to the police.
Officers found a preserved human skin mask, multiple skulls covered in moss and soil, and other bones stored in a suitcase. Authorities mentioned that the suspect openly discussed his macabre collection of human body parts with acquaintances and relatives.
He allegedly confessed to law enforcement that he had an uncontrollable fascination with human body parts, obtaining them from abandoned cemeteries in Hungary and neighboring Slovakia. The man purportedly utilized the body parts to cook and consume various dishes. As part of the investigation, authorities confiscated his vehicle, computer, tablets, mobile phones, and SIM and data cards.
DNA testing is underway to ascertain the origins of the remains. Police indicated that the scope of alleged offenses could broaden once the sources of all body parts are determined.
In a statement, the police mentioned that the man has a strong interest in anatomy and pathology, and enjoys dissecting animals.
This incident comes after a convicted murderer who boasted about eating parts of his victim with pasta has been denied parole for the ninth time. David Harker, who took the life of Julie Paterson in 1998, is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter due to diminished responsibility.
Harker reportedly fried a portion of Paterson’s thigh and consumed it with pasta and cheese after the tragic event. The Parole Board highlighted the need for regular assessments of Harker’s case and noted improvements in his behavior in custody, but concluded that his release or transfer would still pose risks to public safety.
