A 26-year-old boxer, Sharif Ahmadzai, is under investigation by the police in Athens for the alleged murder of Elisabeth Jane Ross, a 38-year-old British woman from Edinburgh. Her body was found in a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of the Greek capital. Ahmadzai is accused of using Ross’s bank card to withdraw money and sending messages from her phone to deceive her family.
Ahmadzai, a father and a titleholder in the Professional Boxing Federation of Greece, arrived in Lesvos, Greece, in 2016 and married Alaina Hall in 2023. The couple, who founded a charity to assist homeless individuals and refugees, had known Ross, a Christian volunteer, through their organization.
Following Ross’s death, Hall raised concerns about Ahmadzai’s behavior to the authorities, stating that he disappeared on the day of the incident and was tracked near Ross’s residence. Ahmadzai attempted to give Hall money and a new phone, suspected to be purchased with her funds, which she later handed to the police. Subsequent investigations at Ahmadzai’s residence led to the discovery of a replica pistol and a military-style knife.
During interrogation, Ahmadzai claimed that Ross was already deceased when he encountered her and that he placed her in a suitcase to take her money discreetly. He has been arrested and charged with intentional homicide, robbery, and weapons-related offenses. Hellenic Police confirmed the arrest and cooperation with authorities from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Scotland in the case.
