A former landlady from Britain was tragically killed in a daylight shooting incident in the Caribbean. Elaine McGowan, 65, who previously managed The Castle Hotel pub in Saltwood, Kent, was fatally shot outside her godfather’s residence near Trincity Mall in Trinidad on July 5, according to her family.
Reports from local media indicate that Mrs. McGowan and her husband Ian were approached by a gunman in a silver Nissan Tiida on De La Mare Avenue around 11am. The assailant opened fire and fled the scene. Mrs. McGowan was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Centre where she was pronounced deceased. Authorities are currently searching for the perpetrator.
Hemang Patel, a resident of Saltwood who had worked at The Castle Hotel under Mrs. McGowan’s management, described her as a kind and supportive individual. He expressed disbelief at the tragedy and emphasized her positive qualities.
Jakki Monroe, the current pub owner, expressed shock on behalf of the village community over Mrs. McGowan’s untimely death and extended condolences to her family. Mrs. McGowan’s sister, Joanne Butcher, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, highlighting her sister’s role as the Director of Cocal Retreat and her commitment to family values and community.
An official from the FCDO stated that they are offering support to the British woman’s family and are coordinating with local authorities in Trinidad and Tobago. The Mirror has reached out to the Trinidad and Tobago police for further information.
