Multiple children have been swiftly taken to the hospital after being found living in appalling conditions in a residence described as extremely sinister by law enforcement.
Following the discovery of the children at a home in Hamden, Ohio, on Tuesday (June 30), four adults were apprehended on charges of felony child endangerment.
Authorities stated that all 16 children required immediate medical attention, with two of them airlifted to Level One trauma centers due to the severity of their injuries.
Acting on received information, the Ohio Bureau of Investigation and the local sheriff’s department conducted a search of the property that led to the investigation.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson expressed shock at the conditions, emphasizing that they were beyond imaginable, especially for children.
During a news briefing, Wilson described the living conditions of the children as incomprehensible, noting that it was the most horrific scene he had encountered in his career, labeling it as pure evil.
The children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old and comprising both boys and girls, were reported by officials.
Gary Siders Jr., Gary Siders Sr., Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders have been taken into custody. They have not yet been formally charged or provided with public defenders.
Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney William Archer explained that the four individuals face second-degree felony child endangerment charges due to the allegations involving serious physical harm.
While officials have not confirmed any familial relationships among the children, they clarified that the case is not linked to human trafficking. The adults, who are not local residents and seemed to be traveling, are under investigation.
As the inquiry remains active, investigators continued searching the property on Tuesday. The four suspects are scheduled to appear in court today. Wilson assured that justice would prevail for the children in this case.
