Police in Budapest, Hungary, have apprehended a 30-year-old man accused of amassing human body parts from deserted cemeteries and his workplace at a hospital. The arrest followed a tipoff to detectives about the storage of body parts at the man’s residence and workplace.
Upon searching the man’s apartment, investigators from Hungary’s National Bureau of Investigation discovered a gruesome collection of body parts, bones, and skin. Among the seized items were skulls, a complete lower leg, a hand, and a facial skin reconstruction. Additional bones were found stored in a suitcase, alongside a heart in a jar, the origin of which is still under investigation.
During questioning, the man confessed to gathering the body parts, expressing a particular fascination with human anatomy. Beyond mere collection, he disclosed his unsettling practice of preparing and consuming food from the human body parts. The man is currently detained on suspicion of illegal use of human bodies.
Authorities indicated that the man’s interest in anatomy and pathology extended to dissecting animals. They suspect he obtained the body parts through his hospital job and by exhuming bodies from abandoned cemeteries in Slovakia and Hungary. Police seized electronic devices belonging to the man for further investigation.
Forensic experts will examine all the recovered body parts, with the potential for expanding the scope of alleged crimes pending determination of the body parts’ origins.
