A man working as a bartender has won a £3.5 million mansion in Cornwall, celebrating by offering free drinks at his pub. Darren Summers, aged 50, received the surprise visit from the Omaze team while working, informing him of his new clifftop property overlooking Downderry Beach. The four-bedroom contemporary home includes a heated outdoor swimming pool and a hot tub, all situated on an acre of land with stunning sea views.
Darren, who entered the competition for £20 through Omaze, manages a pub in Rhondda Fawr valley, South Wales. His wife, Rebecca, 36, works as a Healthcare Support Assistant for the NHS. The luxurious mansion is mortgage-free, with stamp duty and legal fees covered, and Darren also received £250,000 in cash to assist with settling in.
The couple, who have been living in a three-bedroom house for three years, were shocked by the unexpected win. Darren’s initial disbelief turned into excitement as he realized the magnitude of the prize. The spacious house features floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening to a coastal dining terrace, a heated swimming pool, and stunning sea views.
Reflecting on his win, Darren expressed gratitude for the life-changing opportunity, mentioning the challenges both he and his wife have faced. The Omaze prize draw, in collaboration with the Eden Project, raised funds for the charity while awarding Darren his dream home. Matt Pohlson, Omaze’s founder and CEO, highlighted the positive impact of the prize on both the winner and the charitable cause.
As Darren plans to enjoy the summer in his new mansion, hosting family gatherings and BBQs by the pool, he looks forward to the joy and comfort the property will bring to his close-knit family. The win has relieved financial pressures for the couple, offering a fresh start and a bright future ahead.
