A group of children in Spain, aged around 11 or 12, have been given a one-week suspension after being accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. The incident allegedly took place during a birthday party outside the school premises in Burgos, northern Spain. The girl’s family reported the matter to the police, leading to an investigation.
Due to the children being under the age of criminal responsibility, which is set at 14 in Spain, they cannot face legal prosecution for the alleged assault. The school authorities in Burgos are aware of the case, and the police have forwarded the report to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s office.
Initially expelled from school, the accused students were allowed to return to classes after a week. They are being kept separate from other students to prevent stigmatization. In a separate incident, Spanish authorities are investigating claims of sexual assaults on approximately 10 teenage girls who reported being assaulted on a cruise after their drinks were allegedly spiked.
The Civil Guard in Barcelona confirmed receiving reports of the incidents involving minors on the cruise and is currently investigating. While no arrests have been made yet, the suspects have been identified and located.
