King Charles shared a humorous moment with a loyal fan during a visit to Grimsby on Thursday. The local resident, in a burst of excitement, accidentally breached royal etiquette while greeting the monarch.
The King visited Grimsby Town Football Club’s Blundell Park in north-east Lincolnshire, where a crowd of supporters gathered despite the rainy weather, waving flags and banners to welcome him.
During his visit, King Charles interacted with various staff members, including Francine Orr, the ticket office manager. Francine amusingly confessed that she mistakenly called the King “darling” instead of addressing him as “Your Majesty” as per protocol.
Amused by the slip-up, King Charles responded positively, stating that he enjoyed being called “darling.” Francine described the King as approachable and kind, expressing her delight at his visit to Grimsby Town.
Later in the day, the King met the Mighty Mariner, Grimsby Town Football Club’s mascot, at Blundell Park. He received a personalized team shirt with ‘HM King Charles 3’ printed on it as a gift.
Head coach David Artell praised the King’s visit, acknowledging the importance of recognizing the efforts of those contributing to Grimsby’s development and growth.
Throughout his trip, King Charles engaged with local leaders, businesses, and residents, discussing initiatives aimed at enhancing the town’s future and fostering community prosperity.
Despite the rain, King Charles greeted a large crowd upon his arrival in Grimsby, expressing apologies for the inclement weather and engaging in a spontaneous walkabout to interact with well-wishers.
At a local community hub, the King conversed with teenagers about various activities such as boxing, rock climbing, and cooking, as he commenced his tour of community projects.
Visiting the Horizon Youth Zone, King Charles received a warm reception from attendees and engaged in conversations with school children, cadets from different armed services, and scout groups.
His next stop was The CARE Hub, a community care and housing organization dedicated to providing support and a secure environment for local residents.
