“Family of Henry Nowak’s Killer Apologizes for Tragedy”

The family of the individual who murdered Henry Nowak expressed deep remorse for the pain caused by Vickrum Digwa and issued a formal apology. They acknowledged the harm done to the Nowak family and expressed regret for tarnishing the reputation of the Sikh community due to Digwa’s actions. Digwa, aged 23, received a life sentence with a minimum of 21 years for fatally stabbing 18-year-old Henry in Southampton using a ceremonial knife associated with his religious practices. Digwa’s mother, Kiran Kaur, awaits sentencing for aiding an offender by returning the murder weapon to their residence.

The family members of Digwa, speaking through Sikh PA, a charity representing the Sikh community in the media, conveyed their deep sorrow for the tragedy and emphasized their love for Digwa while expressing genuine sympathy for the Nowak family. They expressed a wish to undo the events that led to Henry and Digwa’s encounter and hoped to prevent further pain in the aftermath. Additionally, they apologized to the Sikh community for the negative impact of Digwa’s actions and urged for unity and privacy during this challenging time.

Digwa was found guilty of murdering Henry in Southampton, where the finance student was fatally stabbed multiple times with a 21cm blade on December 3, 2025. Digwa, who also carried a knife in public, claimed self-defense, alleging Henry had threatened him. However, evidence contradicted his account, revealing inconsistencies in his statements to law enforcement. The judge noted Digwa’s possession of a larger knife beyond the traditional Sikh kirpan, highlighting the complexity of the case.

Henry’s family emphasized the importance of a measured response to such incidents, advocating for stricter regulations on blade possession in public areas. They stressed that the case was about murder rather than religious or racial issues. The sentencing underscored the need for adherence to existing laws governing weapon sizes, with the prosecution clarifying the classification of the knife used in the attack.
