“Federal Judge Orders Removal of Trump’s Name from Kennedy Center”

Former President Donald Trump faced a setback as a federal judge ruled that his name must be removed from the Kennedy Center, a prominent arts and cultural venue in Washington DC. The judge found that Trump’s name was unlawfully added to the center and also halted plans to close the facility for extensive renovations. This ruling marks a legal defeat in Trump’s attempts to leave his mark on the US capital.

Trump had taken steps to overhaul the center by replacing the board of trustees and seeking to rename the venue after himself in exchange for financial support for repairs. In response to the ruling, Trump expressed frustration, indicating that he might withdraw his renovation plans, resulting in a loss of funding for the project.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “Unless I am free to revitalize this Institution, I have no interest in pursuing a futile endeavor.” The Kennedy Center’s Vice President of Public Relations, Roma Daravi, mentioned that the leadership would carefully review the judge’s decision and expressed confidence in a potential appeal to acknowledge Trump’s contributions.

The Kennedy Center’s board, which includes Trump’s political allies, had approved changing the institution’s name to the ‘Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts’ in late 2025. Subsequently, the new name was displayed on the building’s facade.

Earlier, Trump had announced plans to close the center for renovations due to structural issues, emphasizing his goal to transform it into a world-class facility. However, there were concerns about his influence on the center’s events, which have faced criticism for promoting liberal viewpoints. Trump utilized the venue for various cultural and political events during his administration, including hosting the FIFA World Cup draw and premiering documentaries.
