“3 Sentenced to Prison in £1M Weight-Loss Drug Theft”

Three individuals have been sentenced to prison following the theft of nearly £1 million worth of weight-loss medications from a healthcare distribution center in St Albans.

The theft occurred on January 24 when intruders broke into the facility on Handley Page Way and stole 79 boxes of Mounjaro, totaling £944,544.89.

Mark Harding, aged 55, Peter Costello, aged 44, and Robert Townsend, aged 59, each received a five-year and three-month prison term at St Albans Crown Court after admitting to the burglary.

Authorities reported that Harding and Costello initially gained access to the distribution center, disabled internal cameras, and stole multiple boxes of the weight-loss product from a refrigerated storage area. Shortly after, they returned with Townsend and took an additional 70+ boxes of Mounjaro.

The trio’s identities were established through phone records, CCTV footage, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. Additionally, Harding’s involvement was confirmed by distinct clothing seen on CCTV before and during the burglary.

The culprits were apprehended on February 11 when police executed search warrants, recovering over £60,000 in cash hidden at Harding and Townsend’s residences.

In addition to their primary charges, Harding and Townsend were handed concurrent nine-month prison sentences for possessing criminal assets.

Detective Sergeant Will Daglish expressed satisfaction with the guilty pleas, highlighting the severe implications of mishandling weight-loss drugs that require proper storage and administration.

Sophia Malik, a lawyer from the Crown Prosecution Service, described the burglary as meticulously planned and involving high-value pharmaceuticals. She commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and prosecution in securing admissions from all three offenders.

This development underscores the significant consequences of engaging in premeditated criminal activities, resulting in lengthy incarceration for the perpetrators.
