Former President Donald Trump surprised many by arriving at the NATO Summit in Ankara, Turkey aboard his new Qatar Force One jet. Despite previous speculations about its usage for domestic travel due to security concerns, Trump announced that the jet was sent to RAF Mildenhall in England for refueling, where he gave US troops stationed there a tour of the aircraft.
Interestingly, Trump opted to fly back to the US from Ankara to Suffolk on one of the older planes for nostalgic reasons. However, upon landing in Mildenhall, he switched to the Qatar Force One jet for the journey back to Washington, DC.
The decision to use the older plane for the initial leg of the trip was reportedly influenced by security considerations, as the new jet lacked certain security and weapons systems necessary for intercontinental flights, especially from regions near potential conflict zones like Iran.
During the NATO Summit, Belgian PM Bart De Wever playfully avoided mentioning the US soccer team’s defeat to Belgium’s Red Devils to Trump, known for reacting strongly to unfavorable news. Trump’s behavior, including discussing controversial topics like trade with Spain and Greenland, led world leaders to steer clear of contentious subjects to avoid agitating him further.
