Young Woman Dies from Self-Immolation Tragedy

A woman in her early twenties, hailing from Blackburn, tragically passed away due to severe burns sustained from self-immolation. Shawgar Rasul Hama, aged 22, succumbed to her injuries at Wythenshawe Hospital in Greater Manchester on May 23. She was swiftly transported to the hospital’s specialized burns unit following the incident, as reported by Lancs Live.

In a preliminary hearing at Preston Coroners’ Court, Area Coroner Kate Bisset confirmed the circumstances surrounding the incident. Ms. Bisset stated, “This lady lost her life as a result of self-inflicted burns.” The court revealed that Miss Hama, born in Iraq in 2003, resided at Greenhurst Close in Blackburn. Her identity was verified by police through her medical wristband at the hospital.

After the initial statements, Ms. Bisset adjourned the hearing. The final inquest is scheduled for October 2 at Accrington Town Hall, presided over by Ms. Bisset.
