In a tragic incident, a man forcibly entered the residence of a young mother and fatally stabbed her while she was sleeping alongside her husband and their three-month-old infant, as detailed in court proceedings.
The accused, Daniel Sean James, aged 46, allegedly carried out the attack on 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur at her home in Hayes, located in west London, early on July 12. Following the assault, James purportedly leaped out of a window, fracturing both his ankles, before being apprehended by law enforcement in close proximity, as stated at the Old Bailey.
Prior to the assault, James was reportedly seen walking through a field in Hayes attired in all black and wielding a large knife. Surveillance footage and doorbell cameras captured him approaching multiple addresses before allegedly stabbing a man in his twenties from behind on the street.
Shortly after, at approximately 7:51 am, James allegedly forcefully entered the home of Mrs. Kaur, where she resided with her spouse and baby, who were asleep in bed at the time. The commotion awakened the husband, who witnessed a figure leaving the bedroom after hearing his wife scream, according to prosecutor Charlene Sumnall.
Within a span of two minutes, James exited the property through a window in the kitchen-living room area onto Uxbridge Road, sustaining ankle injuries in the process. Despite attempting to flee, he collapsed after a brief distance, the court was informed.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene approximately 24 minutes after the initial sighting of the suspect. Tragically, Mrs. Kaur succumbed to a stab wound to her chest and was declared deceased at 8:26 am.
It was revealed in court that the victims had no prior connection to the accused, who received medical treatment before being taken into custody. Subsequently, James faced charges of Mrs. Kaur’s murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed weapon.
Appearing via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs, James, residing in Mercer Place, Pinner, west London, attended Court One of the Old Bailey where Judge Nigel Lickley KC scheduled a plea hearing for October 1 and tentatively set a three-week trial commencing on April 5 the following year.
During the court proceedings, James confirmed his identity and was remanded in custody pending further legal actions.
