“Walton Family Wealth Surpasses GDP of Two Nations”

The wealthiest family globally possesses a fortune surpassing the combined value of two European countries. Walmart was established in 1962 by Sam Walton and his brother Bud Walton, and their seven descendants now form the world’s richest family. Bloomberg declared the Waltons as the wealthiest family last year, with wealth reaching a staggering $509 billion. This amount is comparable to the combined GDP of Greece and Hungary, which totals $520 billion. The Walton family’s net wealth has since increased to $513 billion, according to recent reports. Walmart, now one of the world’s largest retailers, operates over 10,995 stores, with a significant number in the United States.

Despite his remarkable success, Sam Walton maintained a dedicated work ethic and personal touch with customers and employees. After Sam’s passing, his son Rob Walton took over as chairman until 2015, succeeded by Greg Penner, his son-in-law. The family’s substantial wealth enabled them to acquire the Denver Broncos for $4.7 billion in 2022, expanding their sporting interests. Ann Walton Kroenke, married to sports tycoon Stan Kroenke, holds stakes in various sports teams, including the Denver Broncos and Arsenal.

Nancy Walton Laurie, another of Bud Walton’s daughters, unveiled her luxurious superyacht, “Kaos,” worth $300 million. The yacht, purchased in 2018, underwent extensive renovations, making it the largest yacht owned by a woman. Nevertheless, in 2023, climate activists vandalized the yacht in Ibiza to protest against excessive consumption.

Alice Walton, daughter of Sam Walton, is recognized as the world’s wealthiest woman, with an estimated fortune of around $133 billion. She owns an opulent $18 million apartment in New York City, featuring five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and stunning city views. Rob Walton and his family rank 11th among the world’s wealthiest, while Jim Walton and his family hold the 12th position.
