“US Launches Strikes Against Iran to Ensure Accountability”

The United States has initiated a new series of strikes against Iran with the aim of holding the nation accountable, further dampening prospects for an imminent peace agreement.

On Sunday, July 12, the US Central Command announced the commencement of attacks to weaken Iran’s capacity to target ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, CENTCOM confirmed the initiation of additional strikes against Iran to disrupt their ability to threaten civilian and commercial ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz freely, following orders from the Commander in Chief to enforce accountability upon Iranian forces.

Tensions between the US and Iran have persisted since February 28, marked by joint US-Israeli airstrikes on significant Iranian facilities. In response, Iran closed the vital trade route of the Strait of Hormuz, responsible for facilitating 20% of global oil trade.

Earlier reports from the Mirror detailed over 100 strikes by the US in Iran after a vessel in the strait was targeted with missiles, leading to the evacuation of the ship’s crew due to a fire onboard. Subsequently, Iran conducted strikes in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman in a worrisome escalation of hostilities.

CENTCOM released a separate statement indicating around 140 targets were hit, focusing on missile and drone launch sites, ammunition depots, and communication infrastructure.

The breakdown of a ceasefire agreement last week dashed hopes of a resolution to the conflict, exacerbated by President Trump’s decision to cancel the deal following missile attacks on oil and gas vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
