“UK Woman’s Nightmare: Wrong Appendix Removed in Egypt”

A woman alleges that her appendix was incorrectly removed following a severe illness during her vacation in Egypt. Sian Irving, a 29-year-old British woman, and her partner Jack Jackson, traveled to Sharm El Sheikh for a relaxing 10-day holiday. However, Sian fell ill with intense stomach pain, vomiting, and a high fever of 41C.

Initially suspected of having appendicitis, Sian underwent an unnecessary appendix removal surgery in Egypt before returning to the UK for further medical attention. Doctors in the UK informed her that her illness was likely due to food poisoning, not appendicitis, and she was diagnosed with colitis, a condition causing inflammation of the large intestine, restricting her diet, including chocolate consumption.

Describing her ordeal, Sian stated that she experienced excruciating pain, continuous vomiting, and high fever during her stay in Egypt. Hospitalized for several days in Sharm El Sheikh, she was later airlifted back to the UK due to her deteriorating condition.

Upon her return to Britain, Sian was admitted to Exeter Hospital where she received treatment for ongoing colitis, including intravenous antibiotics and steroids. The condition has significantly impacted her life, leading to dietary restrictions, weight loss, and fatigue.

Sian expressed her challenges in adapting to her new diet, coping with bloating, and the physical toll the illness took on her ability to care for her children. She also highlighted the lasting scar from the unnecessary appendix surgery, reflecting on how the traumatic experience altered her life.

Despite efforts to reach out, Sharm El Sheik International Hospital has not issued a response to the incident.
