The recent heatwave with temperatures reaching 35C has subsided, bringing the UK back to average temperatures for this time of year. However, there are indications that temperatures may rise again, with the possibility of hitting 30C in some parts of the country.
According to the Met Office, temperatures are expected to peak between 19C and 22C across the UK this week. Tomorrow’s weather forecast includes the potential for thunderstorms and heavy showers.
Although current conditions may not last long, the GFS weather model suggests a return to 30C temperatures as early as June 11, particularly in the south-east around London. Subsequent highs of 28C are projected for June 15, potentially extending as far north as Yorkshire. By June 16, temperatures in the south-east could reach 30C again, with most parts of the UK experiencing temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s.
Temperature anomaly maps show regions in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland where temperatures are expected to exceed the seasonal average. Across the three days in question, 16 counties could see temperatures of 28C or higher.
The Met Office anticipates hot weather in some areas by the end of the month, although thunderstorms are also a possibility. Looking ahead to June 16-30, the forecast suggests a relatively settled period initially, with high pressure bringing drier conditions. However, showers or rain may still occur, with temperatures likely to be above normal. Towards the end of June, low pressure could lead to heavier showers and thunderstorms, especially in the south, possibly accompanied by hotter weather in some southern areas.
