The UK’s third heatwave of 2026 may face interruptions from rain and thunderstorms, according to the latest update from the Met Office. Temperatures are expected to soar to highs of 32C in various parts of the country this week, keeping much of England and Wales sweltering.
While some areas in southern England could experience isolated showers and thunderstorms, many regions are forecasted to bask in abundant sunshine, as per the Met Office. Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates noted that the settled weather pattern will persist, with temperatures peaking between 30C and 32C across England and Wales.
Coastal areas in the east may not experience the same level of heat due to cloud cover and onshore breezes, providing a slight relief compared to inland regions. Looking ahead to the weekend, high pressure is expected to dominate, pushing the risk of showers away and reinstating dry and warm conditions.
Although temperatures might slightly decrease from midweek, pleasant weather is anticipated across the UK through Saturday. However, the Met Office has issued warnings about an elevated risk of wildfires in parts of England and Wales due to the hot and dry weather. Stronger breezes in certain southern areas could pose dangers for water activities.
Lee Pooley, Head of Safety at Paddle UK, cautioned about offshore winds potentially carrying water users away from shore rapidly. Both the Met Office and Paddle UK advise people to check the weather forecast before engaging in water-related activities this week.
