Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been released from the hospital following a successful lung transplant surgery. The 52-year-old royal’s health condition is reported to be satisfactory, with ongoing close monitoring of her rehabilitation in the coming months, according to Are Holm, Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who is married to Crown Prince Haakon, underwent the lung transplant procedure in June to address her deteriorating pulmonary fibrosis, a condition she has been battling since her diagnosis in 2018. In a heartfelt statement, she expressed her appreciation to organ donors, family, friends, and healthcare professionals for their unwavering support during her challenging journey.
Moreover, the princess sent a special message of solidarity to individuals living with fibrosis, acknowledging their strength and resilience. The positive news about her health progress coincides with the upcoming release of her son, Marius Borg Høiby, from prison after being convicted of rape and serving time for the offense. Høiby, the son of the future Queen of Norway from a previous relationship, is set to complete the remainder of his sentence at his stepfather’s residence under electronic monitoring, as confirmed by his defense attorney.
The 29-year-old will participate in a police-run program aimed at preventing future offenses. The developments surrounding both the Crown Princess and her son have garnered significant public attention, highlighting contrasting aspects of their lives.
