“UK Heatwave: 18 Counties Set for Record May Temperatures”

Weather models indicate that 18 UK counties may experience temperatures exceeding 34C on Monday and Tuesday during the ongoing heatwave. The Met Office forecasts potential highs of 35C on both days, potentially marking the hottest May days on record, surpassing the current record of 32.8C.

Yesterday saw the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures exceeding 30C for the first time in 2026. Today is expected to be even warmer, with possible highs of 32C in southern regions. The yearly temperature record is likely to be broken on Monday and Tuesday.

The UKV weather model suggests temperatures could reach 34C in Lincolnshire on Monday, with most of central and southern England experiencing temperatures in the low 30s. London and the south-west could see highs of 35C on Tuesday, with 18 counties in England potentially reaching 34C or higher.

According to the latest Met Office forecast, temperatures are expected to exceed 28C until at least Thursday. An official heatwave is declared when temperatures reach the heatwave threshold, typically between 25C to 28C, for three consecutive days.

Looking ahead, very warm temperatures are anticipated as we transition into June. The Met Office’s forecast from May 28 to June 6 indicates continued fine weather with light winds for most areas, along with a possibility of showers and thunder in the west. Inland regions will remain warm or very warm, while coastal areas may feel cooler due to onshore breezes.

As June approaches, there could be increased cloud cover and occasional rain showers, although warm and dry weather is expected in between these periods.
