Detectives investigating Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor are set to travel to the United States soon to interview the family of Virginia Giuffre, according to reports. The Times newspaper states that Thames Valley Police (TVP) detectives will meet with Ms. Giuffre’s brother and sister-in-law, Sky and Amanda Roberts. In May, it was revealed that the investigation into Andrew includes looking into allegations of sexual misconduct as part of the broader inquiry into potential misconduct in public office.
The legal definition of the offense being investigated encompasses various behaviors such as sharing confidential financial information, financial misconduct, neglect of duty, and sexual misconduct. It also addresses corruption, conflict of interest, perverting justice, dishonesty, fraudulent conduct, and misconduct for personal gain.
TVP detectives are concerned that the public perception focuses solely on accusations regarding Andrew’s actions as a trade envoy, while the scope of the offense being probed is more extensive than commonly believed. Andrew held the post of the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment from 2001 to 2011, resigning amidst controversy surrounding his association with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite not receiving a salary for his global and domestic efforts to promote British business interests, scrutiny arose over the substantial expenses and travel costs incurred annually.
In the year Andrew stepped down from his position, a photo emerged showing him with his arm around Virginia Giuffre, his primary accuser, who alleged she was trafficked to him at the residence of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. Andrew settled a civil lawsuit with Ms. Giuffre, whom he claims never to have met, for millions of pounds in the United States in 2022.
The former prince has consistently denied any wrongdoing related to his connections with Epstein. Andrew was arrested on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was questioned under caution before being released pending further investigation. Searches were conducted at his former residences in Windsor and Norfolk.
Investigators are currently examining the evidence gathered during the operation. A TVP spokesperson confirmed, “Our investigation into misconduct in public office is ongoing. While we cannot discuss specific details, we are pursuing all reasonable leads in the inquiry.”
