The UK might experience another heatwave soon, with weather models indicating a potential record-breaking hottest day. According to Met Office forecaster Neil Armstrong, this week should generally be pleasant, with temperatures staying in the low to mid-20s. Last week’s heatwave set a new June temperature record of 37.7C.
The GFS weather model suggests that next week could see more temperature records shattered. The current UK temperature record stands at 40.3C, but forecasts hint at a possible 41C in the coming days. GFS model projections for next Monday indicate highs of 35C to 36C in southern, eastern, and central England, with temperatures reaching 33C in Yorkshire and 31C in South Wales.
Temperatures are expected to soar to unprecedented levels next Tuesday, with highs of 40C and 41C forecasted from Yorkshire to London and across the east. Conditions are anticipated to cool off on Wednesday, with temperatures peaking at 35C in the southeast, as per the GFS weather model.
Temperature anomaly maps for next Tuesday depict the UK in red and black, signaling temperatures well above the seasonal average. The GFS model suggests that up to 17 English counties could see temperatures exceeding 40C.
The Met Office indicates an increasing likelihood of a return to heatwave conditions next week. However, extreme high temperatures seen last week are currently deemed unlikely. Met Office forecast Tony Wisson mentioned that temperatures could reach the high 20s in parts of England this weekend, possibly hitting 30C in the southeast and mid to high 20s in Wales.
