The Foreign Office has recommended that UK citizens should avoid traveling to Bahrain and Kuwait unless absolutely necessary due to the ongoing unpredictability in the region caused by the conflict between the US and Iran.
In the latest travel advisory issued today, the FCDO cautioned British nationals in the Middle East to be prepared for potential flight cancellations, travel disruptions, and frequent airspace closures resulting from the escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
A statement indicated that although a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was announced by the US and Iran on June 17 regarding the Middle East conflict, the situation in the region remains volatile. Since July 8, Iran has carried out strikes and retaliatory attacks in various locations, including Bahrain, targeting US military and civilian infrastructure. The risk of further attacks and heightened escalation in the region persists.
Additionally, on July 20, the US Embassy Manama issued a warning that Iran might target unspecified locations in central Manama. Prior to the ceasefire, the Iranian regime had expressed intentions to target US and Israeli-associated locations, such as organizations, businesses, facilities, and institutions.
Similar guidance was provided to British citizens in Kuwait, as both countries have been impacted by the tensions between the US and Iran in recent months. Bahrain has faced missile threats from Iran due to the presence of US military bases, while Kuwait’s airport has been targeted by drones multiple times since the conflict began.
