“U.S. Strikes Iranian Rocket Launchers in Strait of Hormuz”

U.S. military forces conducted a strike on Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first military action in over a month and ending a period of relative calm in the ongoing conflict that has spanned more than six months.

According to an anonymous official, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were seen preparing to launch rockets equipped with sea mines into the strait. The U.S. military recently cleared sea mines from the international shipping routes in the area.

Reports from semi-official news outlets in Iran indicated explosions near Larak Island in the strait. In response to the U.S. strikes, Iranian state television broadcast footage of what they claimed were ballistic missiles being fired at U.S. bases in Jordan. Jordan’s armed forces intercepted eight missiles that breached the country’s airspace.

U.S. military officials refuted Iran’s assertion that the strikes were aggressive, describing them as a “limited, precise action” against minelaying activities. The U.S. Central Command stated that the actions aimed to safeguard civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and global commerce.

The conflict escalation follows the Trump administration’s shift towards imposing economic pressure on Iran as a means to resolve the hostilities, moving away from a focus on military engagements. Concerns arise over the impact of prolonged conflict on U.S. military readiness amid diminishing munitions supplies.

President Trump’s previous optimism about a swift resolution to the conflict appears to be waning, as he emphasizes that negotiations with Iran are not a priority. The U.S. and Israel’s campaign against Iran has reportedly dealt significant blows to Iran’s navy and air force, with Iran claiming substantial economic losses.

Despite the pressure, Iran retains leverage through its actions in the vital Strait of Hormuz, a key energy waterway. The strait remains a focal point of tension, with reduced vessel traffic compared to pre-war levels. Recent incidents, such as an unidentified projectile hitting a tanker north of Khasab, Oman, have added to the complex dynamics in the region.
