A father is heartbroken after his four children, along with their mother and grandmother, were discovered deceased in their residence in what appears to be a poisoning case. The tragic incident occurred in Mechanicville, New York State, with the victims identified as Amy Steadman, 64, her daughter Sarah Myers, 44, and her four grandchildren: Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and Gavin and Gracelynn, both 10.
Authorities found the six bodies following a welfare check initiated by police officers. Chief William Rabbitt of the Mechanicville Police Department stated that evidence suggested the poisoning was intentional, and an autopsy revealed that one of the children had sustained fatal blunt-force injuries.
A note found at the scene, coupled with circumstantial evidence, strongly indicated Amy Steadman’s involvement, according to the chief. The children’s father, Brady Harmon, disclosed that he was in a custody dispute with Sarah Myers and that the children were supposed to spend the summer with him in Utah.
Harmon recounted his marriage to Myers in 2015, their separation four years later, and how he had not seen his children since. He mentioned the last contact with his children on June 7, after Myers informed him on June 10 that they were unwell.
Expressing concern about the situation, Harmon raised the issue with the authorities multiple times, as his children were reportedly sick. Describing his kids as joyful, he reminisced about their interactions and the plans they had for their upcoming visit to Utah.
Steadman’s former husband, John Bauman, vouched for her love for the children and expressed disbelief that she or her daughter were involved in the deaths. Harmon disputed accusations against him, asserting that Myers was the responsible party and detailing past incidents of conflict between them.
While police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, the tight-knit community remains deeply affected by the tragedy, despite limited information released about the sequence of events.
