A tragic incident occurred at a beach in the UK as a 41-year-old woman lost her life after falling from a cliff earlier this month, according to information presented at an inquest.
Rachel Anne Gwilliam, on Monday, July 2, was at Pentreath Beach on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall when the accident happened. Emergency responders were alerted around 12:30pm.
The South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWASFT) stated that the injured individual was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for medical care. The response involved a land ambulance, two air ambulances, and an operations officer.
Additionally, HM Coastguard confirmed that crews from Mullion and Porthoustock, an RNLI lifeboat from Lizard, and a search and rescue helicopter from Newquay were involved in the response.
Despite being admitted to Derriford Hospital, Rachel’s condition did not improve, leading to her passing on July 21 due to a traumatic brain injury sustained in the fall.
The coroner has initiated an inquest into the incident. During a brief public hearing, Senior Devon coroner Philip Spinney revealed that Rachel Gwilliam was from Reading in Berkshire, resided in Billingshurst, was married, and worked as an accountant.
The inquest has been adjourned, with a full hearing scheduled for a later date.
