A tragic incident at West Mersea Beach led to the death of a teenage girl and her mother, while leaving a young boy in critical condition, according to police reports. Sameeha Rahman, 15, her mother Shelina Rahman, 41, and seven-year-old Musa Ahmed, along with three other family members, faced difficulties while in the water on July 22.
Despite their efforts to assist each other, Sameeha and Shelina Rahman passed away, and Musa was airlifted to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. Additional family members also required hospitalization following the incident. Essex Police revealed that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Detective Chief Inspector Al Pitcher expressed support for the affected family during this challenging time and emphasized the collaborative efforts with various agencies in the investigation process. Chief Inspector Michelle Sparks commended the local community for their swift response and solidarity following the incident.
Essex Police received an emergency call on July 22 reporting individuals in distress near Seaview Avenue. Emergency services responded, transporting patients to the hospital for treatment. Musa’s father, Shahin Ahmed, called for enhanced safety measures at West Mersea Beach to prevent future accidents, urging for better equipment and clear warning signs at the site.
