A young British woman is currently detained in Dubai and facing serious charges related to the death of a British man she had met online. Brooke George, a former John Lewis employee and popular TikTok influencer with a significant following, is alleged to have fatally stabbed a 26-year-old man with a kitchen knife in Dubai. The incident occurred after the two individuals had a night out at Caffreys Bar in Jumeirah Village following their initial positive meeting organized through Facebook.
George, hailing from Gravesend, Kent, traveled to Dubai for a second time to meet the man, claiming that an altercation ensued at an apartment which led to her defending herself with a kitchen knife. Despite her attempts to flee back home with the help of friends, she was apprehended at Dubai International Airport and charged with murder, potentially facing the death penalty.
Following her arrest, George reported distressing treatment, including being forced to undress in front of male officers without female presence. Her mother expressed deep concern for her daughter’s well-being and highlighted the terrifying circumstances surrounding the incident. Advocacy group Detained in Dubai is advocating for George’s release on bail, emphasizing the need for a fair trial and thorough investigation into the events leading to the tragedy.
The organization’s CEO urged authorities to consider the case in the context of domestic abuse, emphasizing the importance of protecting George’s rights and conducting an impartial examination of the situation. Allegations of exploitation and mistreatment of women in Dubai were also highlighted, with calls for proper investigation and support for George during the legal process.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been contacted for a response regarding the case.
