Eurostar passengers faced a challenging situation when their journey from Paris to Amsterdam was disrupted due to a technical issue in the midst of a scorching heatwave. The train, en route from Gare du Nord in Paris to Amsterdam, came to a standstill near Fresnoy-le-Luat (Oise) after the driver reported a malfunction caused by the high temperatures.
Stranded without power or air conditioning, passengers had to endure an extended delay of over eight hours, leading to frustration among those on board who took to social media to express their discontent. Responding to the incident, Eurostar acknowledged that the technical problem was a result of the extreme heatwave conditions.
Describing the ordeal as “hellish,” one traveler mentioned that authorities including police, firefighters, and civil protection teams were present to assist passengers, especially the elderly, and provide water as needed. Eventually, a replacement service arrived at 12:30 am the next day, allowing passengers to continue their journey to Brussels, which was originally scheduled for 7:47 pm on the previous day. Some passengers proceeded to Amsterdam by alternative transportation such as buses or taxis.
Eurostar’s Chief Operating Officer, Amar Chaabi, expressed apologies to the affected passengers and commended the efforts of the teams and emergency services involved in ensuring passenger safety and facilitating their onward travel. Chaabi emphasized the importance of analyzing the incident to enhance customer service in the future.
