A man aboard a Ryanair flight had a harrowing experience when a window broke mid-air, almost causing him to be sucked out at 20,000 feet. Ljubisa Karovic, 61, and his wife, Svetlana Grković, were on a flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, on July 10 when the incident occurred.
Svetlana had to desperately pull her husband back into the aircraft as he repeatedly lost consciousness during the terrifying ordeal. Ljubisa, a Serbian businessman, sustained injuries that require him to wear a neck brace for at least six weeks. He expressed disappointment that no Ryanair representatives had directly contacted him after the incident.
Despite the global attention the incident received, Ljubisa stated that the airline had only sent emails to his son, who had booked their flights, offering to rebook and inquiring about his well-being. He criticized the lack of direct contact from the company, expressing a desire for more concern shown towards his situation.
Svetlana also mentioned that the cabin crew seemed unprepared and frightened during the emergency, with other passengers having to assist in preventing Ljubisa from being pulled out of the plane. Medical personnel met the aircraft upon its emergency landing back in Thessaloniki, where Ljubisa was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Witnesses on the flight described a loud noise similar to a bursting tire before the window shattered. Ryanair has been contacted by media outlets for comment on the incident. Ryanair’s group chief financial officer, Neil Sorahan, commended the crew for their handling of the situation, ensuring that all passengers safely disembarked in Thessaloniki.
