An Instagram influencer was fatally shot at close range while sitting in her car at a traffic light. Angie Marcela RamÃrez Vargas, 27, was driving her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Pitalito, a town in Colombia’s Huila region, when a motorcyclist attacked her on Friday night.
The incident occurred as Angie was stationary at the traffic lights near the Gran Plaza San Antonio shopping center. Multiple motorcyclists approached her, opened fire at her vehicle, and quickly fled the scene.
Despite managing to drive a short distance, Angie lost control of her car. Bystanders and emergency responders rushed to assist her, but she succumbed to her gunshot wounds at the hospital.
Following the shooting, law enforcement launched a manhunt and secured the area. They apprehended a 48-year-old suspect hiding in undergrowth, believed to be the passenger responsible for the fatal shots. Another suspect escaped on foot along a riverbank.
Colonel Javier Alberto Duarte of the Huila Police commended the swift capture of the suspect, emphasizing the immediate response by officers leading to the arrest.
Authorities from the Office of the Attorney General of Colombia and national police are actively investigating to identify the remaining suspect and determine the motive behind the attack. A motorcycle and firearm believed to be used in the shooting have been confiscated.
It is currently uncertain whether Angie had reported any threats or incidents to the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Women, as per El Tiempo reports.
Colombia has witnessed 621 femicides since September 2025, according to the Colombian Observatory of Femicides, which cross-references official records with media reports and grassroots community input.
Angie’s tragic death marks the 46th homicide in Pitalito this year, as reported by Ecos del Combeima. The radio station noted that her murder was the second recorded in the municipality on the same day.
