“Pubs to Serve Outdoor Drinks and World Cup Screenings”

Pubs are set to benefit from the opportunity to serve drinks outdoors and host special screenings of World Cup matches following an announcement by Keir Starmer. The government has given the green light for beer gardens to show matches in the evenings, with town halls instructed to cut through bureaucracy to support pubs in England during the tournament commencing on Thursday.

Anticipated to sell millions of additional pints, pubs are expected to see a significant financial boost, providing relief to struggling establishments. Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the World Cup, emphasizing the importance of fans coming together to support England in lively pub settings without hindrance from regulations.

In a bid to facilitate outdoor service, guidelines have been issued to simplify the process for pubs. Additionally, venues have been granted permission to extend their operating hours for the knockout rounds and games involving England and Scotland. Communities Secretary Steve Reed has urged councils to expedite approvals for pubs seeking to serve customers outdoors and stay open late, emphasizing the importance of supporting local establishments during the tournament.

Should England reach the final, pubs are projected to sell an extra 55 million pints, translating to an average of 1,240 additional pints per venue or 14 extra kegs throughout the competition. The Mirror has been a staunch advocate for the pub industry through its Your Pub Needs You campaign, aiming to rally behind owners and tenants who are banking on the England team to provide a much-needed boost amid pub closures in recent years.
