Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season, as announced on Tuesday. The Canadian striker, previously with Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise, has joined on a season-long loan. The agreement includes a potential permanent transfer for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, subject to specific conditions being fulfilled.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be playing in the Premier League starting from the next season, setting a new club record fee. David’s move to Brighton comes after a successful stint of two seasons at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and contributed to the club’s first league title in 90 years in 2025. He inked a contract extension until June 2029 last year.
The 25-year-old, who showcased his talent for Canada at the recent World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury, has four goals from 14 appearances for the national team. Initially part of Nigeria’s under-23 team, David switched his allegiance to Canada in February 2025 following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch, receiving FIFA’s approval.
Brighton becomes the latest chapter in David’s diverse career, having plied his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before making the move to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team’s upcoming campaign.
With Brighton aiming to build on their eighth-place finish in the previous Premier League season, the addition of David, entering his prime years at 25, is seen as a boost to the squad’s attacking options.
