Prince Harry is reported to have had a change of heart regarding bringing Meghan Markle and their children to the UK for a visit after being denied police protection. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had intended to travel to the UK next month for activities related to Harry’s 2027 Invictus Games, with plans to include their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in the trip.
An official request for taxpayer-funded security was submitted by Prince Harry’s team but was allegedly turned down by the police. The family was scheduled to visit during the first weekend of July, marking Lilibet’s first visit to the UK. Initially expressing concerns about safety in the UK for his family, Prince Harry had reportedly reconsidered his stance and accepted an offer to stay at a royal residence, likely Buckingham Palace.
While in the past Prince Harry declined offers to stay in royal residences during UK trips, this time, uncertainties have arisen about the visit as the prince contemplates bringing Meghan and the children. His police protection was revoked in 2022 when the couple left the royal family for the US, requiring him to inform the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) before any UK visits.
Recent reports suggest that Prince Harry has grown increasingly frustrated with the prolonged review of his security request. Despite the rejection of taxpayer-funded security, he has opted to stay at a royal residence for the upcoming trip. Sources close to the Duke mentioned his desire for his children to see their grandfather, but concerns about safety are causing him to reconsider bringing them along.
The UK Government emphasized the strict and proportionate nature of its protective security system, refraining from disclosing specific details to safeguard security integrity. Ravec makes security decisions on behalf of the government, with individual decisions not involving the Home Secretary. Family plans for the visit included visits to Diana’s grave at Althorp House, among other activities.
