A heartless pet owner subjected his three dogs to a living environment filled with shattered glass and damaged furniture before they were eventually rescued. The unfortunate dogs were deprived of food and water, enduring deplorable conditions that were harshly criticized by animal welfare organizations. Connor Stewart, the owner, admitted guilt to violating animal welfare laws.
The dire situation of the dogs was evident even from a brief inspection by Scottish SPCA inspectors peering through the letterbox of Stewart’s residence in Livingstone. Upon being instructed to grant the dogs access, Stewart brought out Dobermans Ammo and Karma and Staffordshire Bull Terrier Kya onto the landing.
Ammo, visibly underweight with protruding ribs and hips, and overgrown nails, was found in a completely filthy flat. The floors were soaked in urine and covered with layers of feces, some already moldy. Broken furniture and shards of glass littered the floors, with electric shock collars charging in the kitchen. All food and water bowls were empty and dry. The inspector described these conditions as among the worst encountered, leading to the decision to remove all dogs and place them under the care of the Scottish SPCA.
Police Scotland was called to assist in the animal removal, but Stewart absconded with his two Dobermans. Kya, the remaining Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was taken to a local veterinary clinic for further attention.
The neglected dog emitted a strong odor of urine and feces and drank excessively due to prolonged dehydration. Following his admission of guilt, Stewart was recently sentenced and prohibited from owning, keeping, or caring for animals for five years, in addition to a £200 fine. The inspector expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling, condemning Stewart’s unacceptable actions and disregard for his dogs’ welfare.
The inspector emphasized that no animal should endure such conditions, hoping that this sentencing would convey a strong message that animal neglect will not be tolerated in Scotland.
