Nigel Farage is preparing to renovate his luxury beach property with an estimated budget of £700,000 following a £5 million windfall from his cryptocurrency billionaire friend. The Reform leader is under scrutiny for the undisclosed funds received from tycoon Christopher Harborne, purportedly for security reasons. Recently, it was disclosed that permission had been granted for a significant transformation of his seaside residence, potentially boosting its value from £575,000 to £1.5 million.
The property in Greatstone, Romney Marsh, is set to undergo extensive enhancements, including the addition of four bedrooms, a sea-view balcony with privacy screens, a log burner, a lift, and six toilets. Planning documents indicate that the project involves constructing a sizable extension, with approval granted by the Folkestone and Hythe District Council. The renovation plans, managed by J G DUVAL Ltd, were approved in November, aiming to revamp the current 95 sqm property to an expansive 248 sqm contemporary coastal home.
Farage’s spokesperson confirmed that the property purchase and renovation plans were initiated before the controversial funds were received from Harborne. Despite the ongoing investigations by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner regarding the undisclosed £5 million, Reform maintains that it was a personal gift without any rule violations. Additionally, Farage’s firm clarified that the acquisition of a £1.4 million Surrey property was already in progress prior to the monetary gift.
The property expert estimates that the renovation costs for Farage’s Greatstone residence could reach £700,000, with the final value anticipated to exceed £1 million. The redesign aims to create a modern beachfront property, significantly improving its market value.
