Newlyweds from England Honeymoon in Texas

England football enthusiasts Lauren and James Portwood are currently in Texas, showing their support for the Three Lions while on their honeymoon. The recently married couple, who tied the knot earlier this month, decided to travel to the United States to cheer for Thomas Tuchel’s team, a special plan they had in mind since they got engaged in 2024. Lauren expressed her excitement, mentioning that an England victory would be the perfect wedding gift, while James anticipated a memorable few days ahead.

James, 36, works as an accountant, and his spouse, Lauren, 41, is employed in customer service. Both loyal fans of Leicester City, they reside in West Bridgford, Notts, and have four children named Lexi, Elise, Teddy, and Charlie. This marks James’ third World Cup attendance, with Lauren experiencing her first. They secured tickets at face value and are prepared to return to England should England make it to the final. Following the match, they plan to head to Las Vegas for a brief stay before flying back home.

The couple’s dream of visiting America dates back to 2016 when they first met, making their journey to the US a long-anticipated adventure. Reflecting on their trip, Lauren humorously suggested it was a strategic choice. Their wedding took place at Makeney Hall in Derbyshire on June 3. England is set to receive immense support from around 10,000 devoted fans traveling to the event, with an additional estimated 15,000 expatriates holding tickets to turn the Dallas Cowboys stadium into a Wembley-like atmosphere.

England enthusiasts have been arriving in Dallas by various means of transportation, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer conveyed his support, praising the team’s talent and experience. The online community recently shared a heartwarming Dallas-based family story, highlighting David Beckham’s link to the region where his football career commenced. Beckham’s early days in Texas included interactions with a Mexican-American woman who affectionately referred to him as ‘Little Davie.’ During a football exchange trip at age 13, Beckham signed his initial autographs for Christine and Sam Alcala, who still possess the scarves he autographed.

Despite his humble beginnings, Beckham rose to become a renowned footballer, even attending a World Cup match alongside Tom Cruise. To the woman who cared for him during his time in Dallas, he remained ‘Little Davie.’
