Ffion Smith shared her distressing ordeal when her eight-year-old son, Ruben Troy, began experiencing sharp pains in April 2026, leading to a sudden collapse and intense suffering shortly after. Despite seeking medical help, she felt dismissed by healthcare professionals who attributed Ruben’s symptoms to a stomach issue caused by poor dietary habits.
As Ruben’s condition worsened with additional concerning symptoms like paleness, bruises, weight loss, and difficulty walking, repeated visits to the doctor finally revealed the true diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in late June. Following two rounds of chemotherapy and a surgical procedure, Ruben is now recuperating at home. Ffion expressed frustration and anger over the delayed diagnosis and is advocating for parents to advocate for their children’s health when they suspect something is amiss.
