“Mother Takes Son on £300 Paris Trip for Birthday”

A mother opted for a unique birthday celebration for her son by taking him on a budget-friendly trip to Paris instead of the usual party. Monica Stott, a 37-year-old mother of three from Wrexham, usually travels without her children, but this time, she decided to bring her 11-year-old son along on a quick adventure to Paris.

The whirlwind 24-hour trip cost them a total of £300 and served as a cost-effective and memorable alternative to an expensive birthday party. Monica explained, “I believe young children may not remember everything, so spending a significant amount on a party that no one will recall seemed unnecessary.”

Comparing the expense, she mentioned that typical class parties at venues like the cinema, bowling alleys, or soft play areas can easily amount to around £250 or more. However, for Monica, the priority was the quality one-on-one time spent with each child individually.

During their Paris escapade, they managed to explore iconic landmarks, enjoy the city’s delights, and return home to their own beds before midnight, much to the delight of Monica’s other children. She remarked, “It actually made them anticipate their own birthday trips eagerly, and they barely even noticed our absence.”

The idea of birthday trips started when Monica’s middle son expressed a desire to go to Barcelona for a day, and her eldest chose Paris for his turn. Despite the tiring schedule, the experience turned out to be one of the most thrilling and unforgettable travel days for the duo.

Their journey began the night before to avoid early morning travel hassles, opting for a budget hotel stay costing £100. The next day started with a complimentary breakfast at the hotel followed by visits to various Parisian attractions like Sacre-Coeur, Place du Tertre for pastries, the Louvre, Tuileries Garden, the Eiffel Tower, and a cruise along the River Seine.

Throughout the day, they indulged in more pastries and hot chocolates, concluding with a final meal at the airport before flying back home at 10pm, arriving and retiring to bed by 11pm.

Monica emphasized that their goal was not to see everything Paris has to offer in just 24 hours but to capture a mix of iconic sights, leisurely strolls, and a touch of spontaneity, creating a unique and fun-filled birthday trip. Sharing the experience with his friends and bringing back French treats added to the special memories.

Offering tips for making the most of such extreme day trips, Monica suggested arriving the night before, traveling light, booking tickets in advance, and utilizing public transportation. She highlighted her previous visits to Reykjavik, Amsterdam, and Alicante for under £100, proving that travel can be an affordable luxury accessible to anyone with proper planning.
