Morrisons is set to implement AI-driven checkout technology in 200 of its stores to speed up the payment process. The supermarket’s new Evercheck system utilizes real-time computer vision to cross-check scanned items with the contents of a shopper’s basket.
If the system detects a missed item, a gentle on-screen notification prompts the customer to resolve the issue. Morrisons plans to introduce this technology to 200 stores after a successful trial period, aiming to reduce interruptions, shorten wait times, and minimize the need for staff interventions.
Everseen, the technology company behind the software, emphasized the importance of providing a hassle-free experience for customers while using self-checkout services. The software will integrate with Morrisons’ existing self-checkout systems rather than replacing them entirely.
Francesca Bezoari, Morrisons’ Store Support Office Director, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Everseen, highlighting the enhanced checkout experience for customers and improved efficiency for store colleagues.
The AI technology will streamline the checkout process by assisting customers in correcting errors and allowing store staff to focus more on customer service. Everseen confirmed that the technology does not employ facial recognition and is solely focused on transaction analysis.

Everseen’s technology is already operational in over 150,000 checkouts and 10,000 stores globally. With Morrisons operating around 500 supermarkets, the initial rollout could cover a significant portion of its larger stores. The specific stores to receive the technology and the completion timeline for the rollout are yet to be disclosed.
