A couple that seemed ordinary has been sentenced to jail following disturbing messages on WhatsApp that revealed their dark secret. Andrew Boyd, 41, and Lara Boyd, 40, who appeared as a typical middle-aged working couple from Tameside, were actually heavily involved in cocaine and alcohol consumption. They were found to have taken inappropriate photos of a child they harbored a sexual interest in, according to reports.
The Minshull Street Crown Court was informed that authorities were alerted to an indecent image of a child traced back to Andrew’s IP address. Upon investigation, the police found incriminating electronic devices like an iPad, iPhone, Playstation 4, and laptop at their residence.
Although Andrew confessed to engaging in sexual conversations on the messaging app Kik, he denied sharing any child images. However, further examination of their devices uncovered explicit images of a child that were clearly taken without consent. The WhatsApp messages indicated the child was the target of their illicit desires, with the images shared exclusively between the couple.
Andrew Boyd pleaded guilty to several charges including voyeurism, distributing indecent images of children, and possession of extreme pornographic material. Lara Boyd also admitted to various offenses related to indecent images of children. Both individuals were sentenced to two years in prison.
The child affected by their actions expressed in a statement the lasting trauma caused by the Boyds. Despite their remorse, the couple’s relationship remains complicated, with Lara having faced domestic violence from Andrew in the past.
In court, it was emphasized that the impact on the victim was severe. Andrew’s lawyer explained how his client spiraled into a state of depravity fueled by substances, leading to a warped interest in extreme content. Lara’s representative acknowledged her deep regret and efforts to turn her life around by abstaining from drugs and reducing alcohol consumption.
Judge Tina Landale deemed the case extremely serious, recognizing the profound consequences on the victim.
