Man on Trial for Teen Girlfriend’s Death Claims Hit-and-Run Deceit

A 41-year-old man standing trial for the alleged murder of his teenage girlfriend by crushing her against a lamppost with a recovery truck stated that he falsely claimed it was a hit-and-run due to feeling overwhelmed. Mohammed Azim faces accusations of deliberately using his flatbed truck to trap 19-year-old Lily Whitehouse against a lamppost following a dispute on his birthday in Oldbury on November 5 the previous year. The young mother, who had a child with another man, suffered fatal chest injuries from the incident.

Azim, currently on trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, refuted the murder charges, explaining to the jury that he unintentionally struck her while dropping her off near her residence. Initially, Azim misled authorities by asserting that another vehicle struck Ms. Whitehouse and fled the scene, a claim that the prosecuting counsel, Rachel Brand KC, highlighted as deceitful.

During the proceedings, Azim admitted to fabricating the hit-and-run narrative to protect himself, stating that he was in a state of panic and disarray. Despite Brand’s accusations of multiple lies and inconsistencies in Azim’s statements to law enforcement and medical staff, he maintained that he was mentally distressed and not fully aware of his actions at the time of the tragic incident. The trial is ongoing as Azim continues to defend his innocence amidst the mounting evidence and scrutiny.

In a poignant moment, Azim expressed deep remorse, affirming that he would sacrifice his own life to bring back the victim. Despite the emotional turmoil, Azim’s mental state remains under observation and medication, as revealed during the courtroom proceedings.
