“Love is Blind” Casting Opens in Canada

Is Canada prepared to explore the concept of love without physical appearances? The pods are set to open for Canadian singles soon.

Netflix revealed on Tuesday that the popular reality dating show “Love is Blind,” which has been a hit in the U.S., is expanding to Canada. If you missed the excitement when it premiered in February 2020, here’s how it works.

Individuals looking for love enter pods where they engage in conversations, flirtations, and get to know each other without seeing each other. They go on dates and, ultimately, make a connection and fall in love solely based on their interactions.

In a unique twist, couples get engaged without ever laying eyes on each other, communicating through a wall. After the engagement, they finally meet face to face and embark on a romantic trip to test their chemistry. Subsequently, they move in together, meet each other’s families, and make the final decision on their wedding day – to either say “I do” or part ways.

Interested in finding love on “Love is Blind” in Canada? Casting is now open for Canadians wanting to participate in the show. Vancouver’s Fernanda Estrada De La Rosa, a long-time fan of the series, was quick to apply, expressing enthusiasm for the show’s format as a refreshing change in the Canadian dating scene.

The announcement of the Canadian spinoff follows a trend of reality shows receiving the Canadian treatment, such as the return of “Big Brother Canada” and the filming of “Canada Shore” in Kelowna, B.C.

According to pop culture critic Katherine Singh, Canada is currently in the media spotlight, evidenced by successful shows like “Heated Rivalry” and the public interest in figures like former prime minister Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry. The timing seems right for tapping into this cultural moment.

Sean De Vries, a Canadian TV producer, believes the popularity of “Love is Blind” makes it a natural choice for a Canadian spinoff. He emphasizes that authenticity is key to a successful dating show.

Insight Productions, the company behind “Big Brother Canada” and “Canada Shore,” is producing the show. Erin Brock, Insight’s co-chief content officer, expressed excitement about working with a Canadian cast on this innovative format.

To qualify for the show, applicants must be at least 19 years old and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident as of January 2027.

Since its inception, the U.S. version of “Love is Blind” has seen ten seasons and spawned spinoffs in various countries worldwide. While the U.S. version is hosted by Vanessa and Nick Lachey, the Canadian host for the spinoff is yet to be announced.
