Labour Peer’s Home Burglarized: Suspect Facing Charges

A man, Sarbast Lokman, is facing charges of burglary, theft, and attempted burglary after reportedly visiting Labour peer Luciana Berger’s residence in London on two separate occasions in April. Allegedly, Lokman attempted to enter the property through the back door on April 11 but resorted to stealing items from the back garden upon finding it locked. The next day, he is said to have returned to the property, gained access to a car parked outside, and stole items totaling £350, including sunglasses, wellington boots, a first aid kit, blankets, clothing, a Neom candle, car fluid, and loose change.

Baroness Berger expressed feeling “targeted” following the incidents, attributing it to her prominent role in the Jewish community and her status as a peer and former MP. The 45-year-old politician served as the MP for Liverpool Wavertree from 2010 to 2019, holding various shadow ministerial positions. While she left the Labour Party in 2019, citing concerns about institutional antisemitism under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership, she rejoined the party in 2023 under Sir Keir Starmer and was later appointed as Baroness Berger in the House of Lords.

Lokman, also accused of attempting to burgle a home in Enfield, North London, had his trial delayed to July 6 due to the unavailability of a Kurdish interpreter. Despite maintaining his innocence, Lokman, who claimed to be homeless with a previous address in North Finchley, North London, is currently in custody awaiting trial since his initial court appearance in May.
