The will of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, has been disclosed, revealing that her multi-million-pound estate has been divided among her children and selected charities. The beloved Duchess passed away in September 2025 at the age of 92, surrounded by her family at Wren House in Kensington Palace.
Following the release of probate records ten months later, it has been shown that the majority of her seven-figure fortune was allocated to her three children: George Windsor, also known as the Earl of St Andrews, Lady Helen Taylor, and Lord Nicholas Windsor.
According to the probate documents, the Duchess, who was married to the late Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, left an estate worth £1,433,696 in the UK, which was reduced to a net value of £1,433,206 after settling debts.
Additionally, the late Duchess bequeathed £10,000 to the charity Future Talent Musicians, which she co-founded in 2004 to support talented young musicians from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Furthermore, she left legacies of £5,000 each to her nine godchildren: Catherine Cameron, Tania Astor, Clare Kerr, Amabel Kerr, Emma Scott, Christopher Morrell, Edward Marsh, Andrew Burley, and George Anandraj.
Her personal belongings, including jewelry, furniture, and other household items, were left to her husband, the Duke of Kent, with instructions for him to distribute them according to her wishes.
The probate records indicate that the Duchess’s will was created on October 5, 2022, and signed under the name ‘Katharine Kent’, witnessed by a personal assistant and an occupational therapist.
Among the specific provisions in her will, the Duchess designated her interest in a property in Edwardes Square, Kensington, to her grandson Edward Edmund Maximilian George Windsor, the Baron Downpatrick.
Moreover, she directed that the income from her family trust, the Worsley Settlement, be allocated to her husband, the Duke of Kent, throughout his lifetime.
Although the wills of senior Royal Family members are typically sealed for at least 90 years, the Duchess’s will is believed to have been made public due to her retirement from royal duties in 2002.
After her passing, tributes were led by the Prince and Princess of Wales, acknowledging the Duchess’s dedicated service and support to various causes, particularly in the field of music. The family expressed their condolences and highlighted her significant contributions to the royal family.
