An airline has decided to discontinue two significant routes from London Heathrow this fall, despite introducing them less than a year ago.
IndiGo, a budget airline, has announced the cessation of flights between London Heathrow and India, citing challenges from geopolitical tensions, escalating fuel expenses, and airspace restrictions as reasons for the route cancellations. The service is slated to end on October 25 when the leased planes are returned to Norse Atlantic Airways.
The airline had been operating direct flights between London Heathrow and Delhi as well as Mumbai, but these routes will no longer be in service. IndiGo, India’s largest airline, assured affected passengers of assistance in finding suitable alternatives, refunds, or alternate travel arrangements.
To resume operations between India and Heathrow, IndiGo is awaiting the delivery of new Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Additionally, the airline is also planning to discontinue other routes from Manchester Airport, with those adjustments scheduled to take effect later this month.
The Mumbai and Delhi routes, which commenced in July 2025, are now set to halt operations on August 31. IndiGo is recognized for offering affordable travel options between the UK and India, with prices as low as £290 for a one-way flight from Manchester to Mumbai.
While IndiGo implements these changes, several other airlines will continue to provide flights between various UK airports and the two Indian cities. Willie Walsh, a former Irish pilot and airline veteran, recently took the helm as the new head of IndiGo, succeeding the prior chief executive, Pieter Elbers, who resigned earlier this year due to a scheduling crisis.
